Seacoast Permiculture Branching Out Author Series

During World War II, Victory Gardens sprouted all over many countries to supplement rations, boost morale and reduce pressure on the public food supply. More recently, they have made a comeback in response to mitigating the impacts of climate change.

This session describes the climate changes taking place in our own backyards, and the various steps we can take to boost a garden’s resilience. I’ll invite you to think of gardening as civic action. By building organically-rich soil and cultivating perennial plants, we can capture greenhouse gases in the very place we’re growing nutritious food.

NOFA-NH's Organic Gardening Series- Gardening in Containers Both Indoors and Out

Container gardening allows just about anyone to grow a decent amount of food, no backyard required. While growing food in pots may not do much to mitigate climate change like cultivating in backyard gardens, it can help us adapt to it by building stronger communities, supporting local pollinators, and expanding the reach of organic, regenerative agriculture.

In this session, we’ll chat about what you need to grow your own tiny victory garden both indoors and out. One that can supply you with as much, or as little, food as you’d like. We’ll cover topics like cultivating living soil, container selection, and which varieties work well in small places.

Gardening for the Climate: Anywhere!

Gardening is something we can all do for the planet – and you don’t need a big yard or a plot in your local community garden to make a difference!

Our April webcast will introduce you to regenerative gardening: what it is; how it works; and how you can transform your window planter, balcony, lawn, or a nearby vacant lot into a space that captures CO2 and produces healthy food.

Let Todd Larsen, Green America’s Executive Co-Director, and Acadia Tucker, author of Tiny Victory Gardens: Growing Good Food Without a Yard, inspire you to utilize regenerative practices in your own Climate Victory container garden!
